Theta Psi Lambda Chapter

Somerset NJ

fcrest2

Theta Psi Lambda was established June 6, 1966. This was a time of upheaval by large segments of the Black community upon racism in most institutional and individual areas--A time when African-American and African peoples were involved in serious mass movements for autonomy and the reaffirmation of African personality and culture.

Upon Theta Psi Lambda’s chartering, the founders came to consensus on the need to contribute actively to the development of social actions with the local African American community.  The consensus led to action of the Chapter becoming involved in numerous community service projects.  The brothers have continually carried out the Fraternity’s National Programs like Go to High School Go to College, which over the years has provided well deserved student with college scholarship totaling over $135,000. The scholarships are given through Sphinx Scholarship Fund, Inc., a 501(c)3 corporation.  In addition, the brothers created a mentoring program for African American male high school students called “Mentoring & Leadership Equals Success (MALES).

We will continue to carry out the mission and ideals of the Fraternity in our local community for the next 40 years and beyond.
